2025 Calendar Launching Ceremony
The UNWG 2025 Calendar Towel launch event was held by the Coordination Board and the Sales Committee. The program took place at the UNWG souvenir shop in the visitors' lobby of the General Assembly building on Thursday, October 24, 2024
The tradition of creating calendar towels began 60 years ago, now the Guild produced the first UNWG calendar towel made of papyrus in Egypt.
The design for the 2025 calendar towel was donated by our former president, Ranu Ferdous, who also presented and autographed calendar towel purchases.
It was a wonderful event attended by distinguished diplomats and guild members.
- CALENDAR TOWEL REMEMBERED
In the early 1960’s the members of the Guild were looking to create a practical and efficient approach to fundraising. The result was The Calendar Towel Project which was conceived in 1963 by the fundraising Chairperson of the Manhattan Group, Mrs. Skvorzor. It was a financial success, and it brought about a spirit of unity and cooperation among the groups--Manhattan, Westchester, Queens and Secretariat.
Every year a request is made for designs to be submitted for the next calendar year. There have been many wonderful artists who donated designs which in turn became our annual calendar. The Calendar continues to be a good source of funding for the Guild together with the other items in the shop.
The 2025 calendar design was created and donated by Ranu Ferdous. This year the calendar was printed and packaged in Egypt by local artisans and printed in Papyrus. This was all arranged by Heba Abdelatiff. In the previous two years Isabel Aleta made arrangements to print the calendar in the Philippines by local artisans.
As you can see, our calendar is international. It gives us a means to assist children worldwide and to help local artisans which, in turn, contributes to better lives for the local children and women.
