GHANA: Hope for Life Handicapped Brothers and Sisters Association

Organization. HOPE FOR LIFE (HFL) is an NGO in Greater Accra, assisting children and adults with disabilities with surgery, mobility aids and training opportunities.

In 1986, Rev. Fr. Jean Thibault was sent by the Society of African Missions (SMA) to work among the “poorest of the poor” - these were the disabled people in extreme poverty, begging on the Streets of Accra. HFL was formed, starting in Madina, moving later to the Bethany House. This was a place of welcome and rest for these children, for recovery for those who recently had surgery or other illness, a comfortable meeting place with other children with disabilities, for skills training and other beneficial activities.

In 2003, the new Bethany House was built, together with the HFL incomegenerating projects - a Bakery and Mushroom Cultivation Project. The NGO has grown beyond the original vision to include every person with disability who wants to believe in his own wealth.
