PHILIPPINES: Chosen Children Village (CCV)
The Chosen Children Village (CCV) is a secure and nurturing home for children with physical, mental, and social challenges. Founded by Lita Fullerton in 1988, CCV provides lifelong care to children who are not adoptable, focusing on love, rehabilitation, education, and life skills training to promote dignity and independence.
Lita, moved by her volunteer work with disabled orphans in a government-run agency, opened CCV with her husband Ron, their children, and her mother. With help from U.S. adoption agencies and sponsors, they placed many children with American families and established a permanent community for those who remained.
In 1992, the CCV Foundation was established, and the village expanded through donations and support from friends, classmates, and organizations. Ron sold his company to fully support CCV, and a child sponsorship program was launched. A farm was later developed to help sustain the village, with children participating in gardening and animal care.
Spiritual training is part of the program, supported by a chapel and clergy. A resident physician ensures children receive proper medical care. Since 2011, leadership transitioned from Lita to social worker Che Nova, and later to Executive Director Rowena Taylor.
Lita received the Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Award in 2014 for her lifelong dedication to the children. At CCV, children are assessed upon arrival and receive therapies, education in literacy, math, life skills, and vocational training like cooking and crafts. They also participate in field trips, cultural events, and Broadway-style performances.
Some grown-up children continue to live in CCV permanently, taking on responsibilities and receiving compensation. Plans are underway to gradually pass on management to trusted staff and long-term residents. The CCV board remains committed to supporting this meaningful mission.
